As a student, I've used Microsoft Word as a tool to write papers and do research papers.  I've used it for almost every essay I've been assigned to write in school.  The spellcheck and grammar check features have allowed my writing to be more free of errors than it would be if I just hand wrote everything.  My teachers in the past have used Microsoft Word for rubrics or assignment instructions.  They also used it to create tests and quizzes.

In order to avoid copyright issues I have cited my sources in the past through bibliographies and links.  I also don't copy information word for word from sources that I use.  As a teacher I will probably use Turnitin in order to make sure that my students don't copy.  I will also require them to cite their sources.

A solution to Cyber bullying in schools would be to allow students to report it anonymously.  A solution to privacy issues would be to add passwords to student's accounts and then make their accounts private to others.  A solution to Academic Honesty issues would be to limit phone use in the classroom and to check work to make sure that students don't copy each other.

  1. Many of us consider fair use of other people's work as proper citing in the research papers, but it is more than that. We create and disseminate information in both the real world and online world and we need to respect other people's creation. Therefore creative commons is an interesting solution for us to treat IP seriously and encourage people to respect our IP.
